What Cypress Heat and Humidity Do to Your AC
Cypress summers are long, hot and sticky, and your AC is pulling double duty: cooling the house and wringing water out of the air. A few things we see a lot around here:
- Attic duct connections pulling loose. Most Cypress homes run flex duct through an attic that can get far hotter than the outside air. Over time the tape dries out and the inner liner pulls away from the collar at the plenum or register box, and you end up cooling the attic instead of your rooms. The fix is to cut back to clean duct, pull the liner over the collar, seal it with mastic or UL-181 foil tape and a strap, and tie the insulation jacket back over it.
- Clogged condensate drains. All that humidity means a lot of water coming off the coil. When the drain line clogs, you get a tripped float switch, a wet ceiling or a system that shuts off on a hot afternoon.
- Sticky, clammy rooms. If the house feels damp even when the thermostat says it's cool, the system may be short cycling, oversized, low on refrigerant or dealing with dirty coils.
- Older systems in established neighborhoods. Many homes in 77429 were built in the 1990s and early 2000s, so original or second-generation equipment is common. Newer homes in 77433 have newer equipment, but attic duct work and drain lines still need attention.
What We Check on an AC Tune-Up
- Inspect and check the outdoor condenser coil and indoor evaporator coil
- Check refrigerant pressures
- Test the capacitor and contactor
- Flush the condensate drain line
- Check the air filter
- Check and tighten electrical connections
- Check thermostat operation
If we find a problem, we'll explain it and give you options before any repair. Between visits, check 1" filters every 1 to 3 months and 4" to 5" media filters every 6 to 12 months.

Cypress AC Repair FAQ
Can you come out to Cypress the same day I call? Often, yes. We offer same-day service whenever possible. Call (832) 302-4608 or (832) 420-4145 early in the day and we'll get you on the schedule as soon as we can. During heat waves we can't promise same-day every time, but we'll always tell you straight when we can be there.
Do you offer emergency AC repair after hours in Cypress? Yes. Regular hours are Monday through Sunday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and emergency service is available around the clock, 365 days a year. After-hours calls carry a $120 fee, waived when we do the repair.
How much does an AC tune-up or diagnostic cost? An AC tune-up is $94. Repair visits have a $94 diagnostic fee, waived when you go ahead with the repair.
Why are some rooms in my Cypress home hotter than others? In a lot of homes around here, it's the attic duct work: a loose or crushed flex duct connection, a disconnected run or leaky plenum. It can also be a dirty filter, a closed register or a system that's struggling. We'll check the airflow and tell you what's going on.
My house feels humid even with the AC running. What's wrong? Common causes are short cycling, a dirty coil, low refrigerant or a system that's too big for the house. A tune-up or diagnostic visit will narrow it down.
Do you work on brands other than Trane? Yes. We sell, install and service Trane, and we repair and service all major brands. We don't repair window units or portable room AC units.
What if my AC needs to be replaced? We'll give you an honest answer either way. Estimates for new systems and replacements are free, and financing is available through Wisetack.
