Brands and Equipment

Do you service Trane equipment?

Yes. We sell, install and service Trane air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces, and we buy our Trane equipment through Hunton Distribution, the Houston-area Trane distributor. That lets us offer Trane dealer pricing on new systems in Tomball and the surrounding area. We also repair and maintain Trane systems we didn't install.

Do you work on other brands besides Trane?

Yes. We repair and service all major brands, including Carrier, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, Ruud, American Standard, Daikin, Amana, Bryant and York. If it's a central AC, heat pump, furnace or mini-split, we can work on it.

Do you repair window units or portable room air conditioners?

No, we don't repair window units or portable room AC units. We install and service central air conditioning systems and ductless mini-splits. If you're tired of window units, a mini-split is often the best upgrade for a room, garage or addition. Call us and we'll walk you through the options.

Common AC Problems

Why is my AC running but blowing warm air?

Before you call, try these quick checks:

  • Make sure the thermostat is set to Cool and below room temperature.
  • Check the air filter. A clogged filter can choke airflow and even freeze the coil.
  • Check the breakers for both the indoor and outdoor units.
  • Look at the outdoor unit. If the fan isn't spinning or it's humming, turn the system off.
  • Look for ice on the copper lines or indoor coil. If you see ice, turn the system off and let it thaw.

If it still isn't cooling, the usual causes are a failed capacitor, a refrigerant leak, a bad contactor or a dirty coil. Turn it off and call us for AC repair in Tomball. Running a struggling system can damage the compressor, which is the most expensive part to replace.

What are the signs of a bad AC capacitor?

The capacitor gives your AC's motors the jolt they need to start. Common signs it's failing:

  • The outdoor unit hums but the fan doesn't spin
  • The AC is slow to start or clicks on and off
  • The system runs but blows warm air
  • The AC shuts off on its own on hot afternoons

Capacitors fail often in Texas heat. Replacing one is a quick, affordable repair. Capacitors hold a dangerous charge even with the power off, so leave this one to a pro.

How do I know if my blower motor is going bad?

The blower motor pushes air through your vents. Warning signs include weak airflow from the vents, a system that runs but barely moves any air, squealing, grinding or rattling from the indoor unit, a burning smell, or a blower that won't shut off. Catching it early can save the motor's control board, so call for blower motor repair as soon as you notice a change.

Maintenance and Indoor Air

How often should I get an AC tune-up?

In the Houston area, we recommend a tune-up twice a year: the AC in spring before the heat hits and the heater or furnace in fall. A tune-up catches weak capacitors, low refrigerant and dirty coils before they turn into a breakdown on the hottest day of the year. Between visits, change your filter. Check 1" filters every 1 to 3 months and thicker 4" to 5" media filters every 6 to 12 months.

Is duct cleaning worth it?

Sometimes. Duct cleaning makes sense if you've had a remodel, pest problems, visible mold or debris in the ducts, or dust that keeps coming back right after you clean. For many homes, a good filter and regular maintenance are enough. Leaky or crushed attic ducts are a bigger problem in Tomball homes because they waste cooled air into a hot attic. We'll tell you honestly whether you need duct cleaning, duct repair or neither.

Repair, Replacement and New Systems

Should I repair or replace my AC?

A good rule of thumb: multiply the age of the system by the repair cost. If the result is over about $5,000, replacement is usually the better value. It also makes sense to think about replacing when:

  • The system is 12 to 15 years old or more
  • It uses R-22 refrigerant, which is no longer made
  • You're paying for repairs every year
  • Your electric bills keep climbing or some rooms never cool down

We'll give you an honest answer either way. If a repair makes more sense, we'll tell you.

How long does a new AC or HVAC installation take?

Most installs run four to eight hours, depending on the system and setup. Simpler swaps can be done in as little as four or five hours, while bigger jobs can take up to ten. Jobs that add new ductwork, move equipment or change system types can take longer. We'll give you a timeline with your estimate.

Heat pump or furnace: which is better for a Tomball home?

Both work well here. A heat pump heats and cools with electricity and is very efficient in our mild winters. A gas furnace paired with an AC gives strong, steady heat on the few really cold nights. Many homeowners choose a heat pump with electric backup heat, or a dual-fuel system that pairs a heat pump with a gas furnace. We'll help you compare upfront cost, energy bills and comfort for your home. We do heat pump repair and installation as well as furnace repair and heater installation.

What is a mini-split, and is it right for my home?

A ductless mini-split is a small outdoor unit connected to one or more quiet wall-mounted units inside, with no ductwork needed. It's a great fit for garages, workshops, additions, converted attics, or a room that never gets cool enough. Mini-splits heat and cool, are very energy efficient, and are a much better long-term choice than window units. We handle mini-split installation from start to finish.

Is a smart thermostat worth it?

For most homes, yes. A smart thermostat lets you adjust the temperature from your phone, set schedules, and see energy use, which can lower your cooling bills in a Texas summer. Some models also give maintenance and filter reminders. Not every smart thermostat works with every system, especially heat pumps and older wiring. We'll make sure yours is compatible and do the thermostat installation for you.

Backup Power for Texas Outages

Should I get a standby generator for power outages?

If you've sat through Winter Storm Uri or Hurricane Beryl without power, you know why Texas homeowners are asking about this. A standby generator is permanently installed outside your home, runs on natural gas or propane, and turns on by itself within seconds when the power goes out. That keeps your AC or heat, refrigerator and lights running. We size the generator for your home and HVAC system so it can actually run your air conditioning, and we handle generator installation and standby generator installation from start to finish. Our own installers do the electrical and gas hookup, with no subcontractors. We install Cummins standby generators.

What's the difference between a battery backup and a generator?

A home battery backup stores electricity and switches over silently when the power goes out. There's no fuel, no noise, and it can recharge from solar. Batteries are great for keeping essentials running, but running central AC for a long outage usually takes a large battery system. A standby generator can run your whole home for days as long as it has fuel. Some homeowners use both. We offer battery backup installation and generator installation and will help you pick what fits your home and budget. The battery backup system we install varies by installation. We'll recommend the right setup for your home and what you want it to power.
